Former Bulldog outfielder Derek Freamisco begins his first season on the Fresno State coaching staff. Feramisco is the team’s first base coach and he also assists Mike Rupcich with the outfielders.

Feramisco holds the school record for doubles in a season with 28 set in 1996. He finished his three-year career with a .335 average (191-for-570) with 125 runs scored, 43 doubles, 10 triples, 30 home runs and 133 RBIs. His name can be found throughout Fresno State’s career record book, as he in the Top 10 in home runs (fifth), doubles (tied-fifth), RBIs (seventh) and triples (tied-10th). Feramisco was an All-WAC performer in 1996 and he earned second-team all-conference accolades in 1997. He also garnered team MVP honors following the 1996 season.

Feramisco was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round of the 1997 amateur baseball draft and played professionally for three seasons. He began his career at the Cardinals’ Rookie affiliate in Johnson City, Tenn., in 1997. Feramisco began the 1998 season at St. Louis’ Class A club in Peoria, Ill., and was promoted to Woodbridge, Va., midway through that season. He started the 1999 season in Little Rock, Ark. (Class AA affiliate), asked for his release and finished the year in Vero Beach, Fla., playing A ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Feramisco, 25, is a native of Clovis, Calif., and is a junior in marketing. His interests include hunting and fishing in addition to baseball. He is single and resides in Clovis.
