FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team traveled to Texas for a three match series with Baylor, Texas and TCU. After coming off four straight wins, the Bulldogs fell to Baylor 6-1. The Bulldogs are now 6-3 overall for the season.

"Baylor is an extremely competitive top 5 team. I thought we got pressed early on in doubles and couldn't catch up," head coach Simon Thibodeau said.

"We came back much stronger in singles. We could have get three more points (at 1,5,6). We have played very closely two excellent teams in the top 4 (Northwestern, Baylor) on the road. It's time for us to be more opportunist and win these matches."

Sophomore Anatasia Petukhova won her singles match at the No. 2 spot in two sets. She defeated Taylor Ormond 6-3, 6-4. She improved to 23-4 overall and 8-1 in dual.

Junior Melanie Gloria and Sophomore Vanessa Heroux fought hard at the No. 1 and No. 6 spots. Both Gloria and Heroux forced their matches into three sets.

Gloria fell in the first set 3-6, the came back to win her second set 6-4. After fighting hard, she was defeated in the third set by No. 24 Zuzana Zemenova, 5-4.

Heroux battled against Karolina Filipiak, falling in the first set 2-6, then Heroux made a comeback in the second set, winning 6-2. After a long battle, Heroux fell in the final set, 4-6.

The Bulldogs will continue playing this weekend in Texas, playing Saturday at 11 a.m. against No. 27 Texas. This is the first meeting between the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Texas Longhorns.
