FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State volleyball team under new head coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell will have its first and only spring competition this weekend as they play in the Sacramento State Spring Tournament April 19 at Hornet Gym.
"With only three weeks of training at our back, my now feisty team has made noticeable progress," said Netherby-Sewell. "Up until last Friday, I wasn't sure we were prepared for competition - but on that Friday, they proved ready."
The Bulldogs will play four matches in the tournament with each match consisting of two games to 25 points. They start the tournament vs. host Sacramento State at 10:30 a.m. followed by a match vs. WAC foe San Jose State at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon session will consist of a match vs. UC Davis at 2:00 p.m. and one vs. Sonoma at 3:00 p.m.
This will be the first competition for the Fresno State team under Netherby-Sewell and the newly appointed assistants, Ed and Alanna Jackson who just arrived in Fresno this week.
"This tournament is loaded with strong western teams," added Netherby-Sewell. "It'll be a terrific test to see what needs to be worked on to be competitive within that company. I've added a strong staff just at the right time. They've already added to our improvement. I look forward to a challenging, fun trip!"
